BODY TYPE, INSURANCE CHARTS, AND WEIGHT SCALES – PART 1

My husband is an endomorph—one of God's pear-shaped people. Endomorphs are built to be a little bit shorter, a littie bit rounder, and a little bit stockier than everybody else.

I am an ectomorph, the tall, thin, angular type who has trouble gaining weight. I have been called Olive Oyl all of my life and have been on serious weight gain plans since I was twelve.

The average body type is called the mesomorph—he or she has the best chance of keeping weight stable and is the most athletically built of the three basic types, though in no way guaranteed to be perfect.

When you begin to calculate your husband's potential weight loss and his goal weight, it is important to take body type into consideration. Endomorphs should be allowed to remain stocky (without being sloppy, of course), since you can never change their basic build. If the weight chart you happen to use has only one suggested weight for your husband's height, consider that weight to be proper for mesomorphs. Allow five pounds over for endomorphs and five pounds under for ectomorphs. If you're married to an overweight ectomorph (very rare!), congratulations, we're going to give you a free five pounds—if you want them.
